Clean energy in the developing world is slowing down. What can we do?
-
Economic expansion in developing countries needs to be powered by renewables in order for the world to have a shot at meeting climate targets. How can we encourage clean energy to be the default choice for geographies that are growing quickly?

@Maxime-Cote Highlighting this is quite important. Ultimately the vast majority of new energy generation globally will be in developing countries. One way that I've seen clean energy penetrating these areas in a more flexible way is through distributed (local) generation. Having microgrids with on-site generation has a lot of benefits including greater energy security and resilience. I'm going to write a longer piece on this problem... stay tuned

A glass covering for solar panels introduces architectural beauty to clean energy function, by "a wall of photovoltaic panels (that) will save the building an estimated 18% annual energy consumption," at Red River College. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/featured-reports/article-from-the-wings-of-a-butterfly-comes-inspiration-for-winnipeg-building/

@K-Fitzsimmons Good idea but it doesn't seem financially possible in developing countries

Loads of small scale solar apparatuses (apparatum? apparati?) are making their way to places that are currently not electrified! Here is one solar home kit
The cool thing is the financial model of pay-as-you-go has enabled people who otherwise might not be able to afford a switch away from dirty and toxic kerosene!
