@briparks What is your earth overshot date? my results showed that mine is June 18th, and we would require 2.1 earths if everyone lived the same way I do.
-
@briparks where in the world are you located? I think your personal footprint might have a lot to do with the structure of the society around you. awesome that you're trying to be aware of it though!
-
@briparks on that link it says "Earth Overshoot Day 2019 is July 29". What does that mean?
-
@aviary Earth Overshoot Day is the date when humanity's demand for natural resources in a given year exceeds what the Earth can regenerate within that year. It is in a constant deficit, which is a big reason why the climate crisis exists. So, if the 2019 earth overshot day is July 29th, that means that humanity consumes the sustainable amount of resources by that date. Anything consumed after that (between August-December) is comparable to running the earths natural resources into a deficit. Calculating your own overshot date illustrates how long it would take/how many βearthsβ would be required to sustain humanity if every person consumed/lived/ate/travelled the same as you do. Hope that helps!

@briparks I think this is the right way to look at things! We need to live in a way that's in harmony with the giant ecosystem that is the earth

@briparks understood, thanks!
